Wilton Armatale metal bread tray inscribed with Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread. Just in time for Easter and St. Patrick's Day this beautiful, thought inspiring bread tray is made of armatale, a metal alloy primarily of aluminum. Wilton Armatale, the manufacturer, began operations in 1893 as Wilton Brass Company. Wilton, Jr. developed armatale in 1963 and it continues to be made today. The exact formula for the metal is a closely guarded secret. Wilton Brass Company moved to Mount Joy, PA in 1969 and opened as Wilton Armatale. The alloy is used to produce various pieces using the ancient art of sand molding. Each piece is made by pouring the metal into sand molds and when ready are finished by hand. No two pieces are exactly alike. The finished pieces can be made to look like pewter (which most people believe to be the primary material) or can be polished to give a beautiful shine like silver. Wilton's foundry in Mt. Joy strives for environmental excellence. In 1997 the foundry achieved ISO-14001 status the first foundry to do so. The company was given the Pennsylvania Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence in 1996 and 1998. The company was sold in late 2010 and for the first time in 117 years a Wilton family member is not involved with the business. This bread tray has been manufactured for decades and has been copied by multiple manufacturers. The beauty of Armatale is that it can be used in the oven, grill or table service. When heated the alloy will maintain it's heat to keep the contents warm for an extended time. As the label indicates, it must be washed by hand. That isn't much of a chore for a bread tray! Using a phrase from the Lord's Prayer, "Give us this day our daily bread..." this serving piece represents more than merely a dish on which to put the rolls. What a wonderful gift to grace one's table throughout the year.
The piece is in like new condition and measures 11" X 7" x 1". There are no dents, scratches or repairs. Do not hesitate to ask any question you might have about this offering.
